OUR MISSION
The mission of Friends of Shades Mountain is to preserve
and protect the undeveloped sections of Shades Mountain for
the mutual benefit of all who live on or near the mountain.
THE FACTS
Friends of Shades Mountain, Inc. is a non-profit tax exempt
organization. All contributions are deductible to the extent
allowed by law.
The area of steep Southern Appalachian mountainside is
bordered by Highway 280, Shades Crest Road, Highway 150,
and Shades Creek. It is the major undeveloped Southern
Appalachian steep mountain forest in Jefferson County.
The mountain contains Jeffereson County's most spectacular
continuous flyway, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking views
from above and below (viewshed.)
